You knew this day would come. When the Tory leadership contest was announced, we all knew it was inevitable. The man who conspired to have a journalist beaten up. Who was fired from the Times for making up quotes. The man who wrote the biggest lie of the Leave campaign (in terms of square inches) on the side of a bus - and still stands by it.
The man who happily describes Muslim women as “letter boxes”, gay men as “bum boys”, and black people as “picanninnies”. The man who, during his time as Mayor of London, wasted over £48 million of taxpayer money on a bridge without a single brick being laid.
Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson is our Prime Minister - and the odds of you having voted for him are vanishingly small. Just 0.14% of the country’s electorate did. The man has less of a mandate to be PM than the NERC did to name their research vessel Boaty McBoatface.
In choosing his cabinet, you’d almost think that Johnson’s plan is to surround himself with incompetent bigots so that his own deficits are less immediately apparent. If so, he really couldn’t have picked a better team.
There’s Dominic “feminists are now amongst the most obnoxious bigots” Raab, who forgot that Britain is an island and resigned shortly after negotiating the Withdrawal Agreement.
There’s Priti Patel, who recommended threatening Ireland with food shortages, supported the death penalty, and tried to secretly funnel UK foreign aid funds to the Israeli army.
Jacob Rees-Mogg, who opposes women’s right to abortions, passionately fights against gay marriage, and described the rise in the use of food banks as “uplifting”,
The list goes on. There’s Gavin Williamson, who was sacked less than two months ago for leaking state secrets, Esther McVey who has fought against LGBT+ education in schools and Sajid Javid, whose devotion to Brexit is dwarfed only by his love of Margaret Thatcher.
This cabinet is one of the most far-right this country has ever seen. If we do nothing, there’s no knowing how far they’ll go in order to force Brexit on us - and use the resulting chaos to make our country a neoconservative hellscape.
We have to fight back. You have to fight back. Join us, and together, we will bring an end to this nightmare.
